Our current unit for 8th grade Family and Consumer Sciences is Sewing. Students are participating in a project called "Patchwork of Kindness" where they are required to research an organization of their choice that they would like to donate their quilt or blanket to. The students then design their own quilt or blanket using their knowledge from last year about design. The students are very excited to finish their projects and send them to their organizations.
Here we are holding up the jeans that we just ripped using the seam ripper. These jeans were donated by some of the faculty/staff members at our school. We are incorporating DENIM into our quilts so we can get experience working with different types of textiles.
All fabric needs to be properly ironed before we cut or sew ANYTHING!
